Description
This listing is for a VERY LIGHTLY used original USA made WW-2 era M-43 flight jacket replacement zipper made by CONMAR. To include the upper stop. Used on many AN model WW-2 era USN jackets and specifically used on the Perry Sportswear A-2.It has brown colored fabric tape. The teeth are blackened brass and sized as a #5 (1/4). It is absolutely perfect for a repair on a WW-2 vintage jacket. This zipper I am offering here is more than long enough for all applications. Note, this zip has robust (tested by me) fabric tape & I would trust this male zipper for a jacket to be used on a daily wearer.
I both restore and build vintage jackets from scratch. Past experience dictates that these vintage jackets zipper failures are at the males insert. By replacing that problem side with this original zip as a replacement will keep you from having to replace the entire assembly. Plus maintain your jacket in it's original state. Therein keep in more collectible and retain it's value.
I've included a couple of USN type jacket examples for this zipper's use. Neither of those jackets are included with this sale. Only seen with those descriptive images as examples for the intended use of this Conmar zipper being offered.
That first jacket example is a WW-2 worn AN- 6552 American Sportswear. Among other work I am getting ready to restore a jacket that uses an exact same (Conmar) zipper change out to the male side. That particular jacket is IDed to a two time Navy Cross recipient & original Blue Angle member who flew with CO Butch Voris and my late father's first (VA-55 WARHORSES) XO. It is his original WW-2 issue and worn throughout his entire USN flying career.
My intention is to keep that American Sportswear jacket as is. Not to mention, find & reattached it's missing 1946 VA-7A (SUNDAY PUNCHERS) patch & make the zipper functional. Once that male zip has been changed this jacket will be fully functional again.
On higher end restorations like the American Sportswear I completely restore includes hand stitching those zippers back into place. All done utilizing the original holes. All correctly aligned front and back. An example of that same type of work but completed can be seen on the last 5 images. Now worn by a active duty USN aviator. While flying, that same USN aviator & Arnoff jacket owner prefers wearing WW-2 era jackets over modern issue.
That completed jacket as seen in the last five pix is a late War Arnoff AN-6552. Once reworked by me, nearly impossible to tell that the jacket's original zip has been replaced. Exactly what you might expect to see on your jacket when reworked by me.
Although a zipper replacement can be done by machine only one side of the original holes can then be completely filled. Therein a machine job leaves an additional row of empty or ghost stitches on the inside.
The attachments show the zipper's dimensions and perfect for any jacket needing a new male zip.
Note, I do both repair work to vintage jackets and build from scratch. In the event you want me to attach this zipper to your jacket just send me David Sheeley a pic of what you need done and I'll get back with you.
